Black Necked Grebe
Black Necked Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis)
A small grebe with golden tufts contrasting with its black feathers. An occasional winter visitor to Arran and passing migrant last seen in Whiting Bay. An excellent swimmer and diver, they eat small fish, insects and crustaceans, nesting on the water's edge.
