Dolphin - leaping
Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) - leaping
Dolphins live in groups known as pods, typically there are about 15, but it is known for an animal to be solitary, or pods up to 100 and even up to 1,000 have been recorded. They can often be seen off the coast of Arran in the summer months. They are intelligent animals that communicate to one another with squeaks and whistles and body language sounds made by leaping from the water and slapping their tales on the surface. They eat fish and pods are known to work as a team to harvest shoals of fish, finding their prey by echolocation.
