Golden Plover
Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria )
A medium sized plover with a distinctive gold and black summer plumage, which stand upright and run in small bursts. It is a breeding and winter visitor to Arran common on the Machrie shore, north-western moorland, Machriewaterfoot and Shiskine from August to April. They nest on the ground in a dry open area and forage for food on fields, beaches and tidal flats feeding on insects, worms, berries and crustaceans.
