History of Island Porcelain

History of Island Porcelain

A beautiful collection of fine hand painted porcelain pieces depicting wildlife on and around the isle of Arran.

In the early nineteen seventies Alastair Dunn began producing porcelain miniatures on Arran and now with the current owner, Vivienne Coulthard, Island Porcelain continues to produce a growing range of ornamental ceramic figures. Vivienne continues to add new pieces to the collection each year.

Vivienne has a display in the retail shop in Brodick of some of Alastair Dunn's original pieces, some being kindly loaned by Alastair's widow, Maggie.

Each figure is individually handmade by one of a small team of skilled crafts people and then carefully handpainted, so that no two pieces are identical. When fired, most of the figures have a matt, unglazed finish which is characteristic of all the products.

British birds make up the majority of the designs, however there is also a small range of animals, such as seals, dolphins and the latest addition, the red squirrel.

The pieces are unique and affordable gifts for friends and loved ones of any age
