Peregrine Falcon

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)

The peregrine is a large powerful falcon with blue-grey upper and black 'moustache' contrasting with its white face. It is a resident of Arran, with widespread breeding at inland and coastal sites, and it is the world's most widespread bird of prey. They feed on medium-sized birds, such as wading birds, pigeons and small ducks. Its nest is a scrape, normally on cliff edges, but it has also been known to use tall man-made structures. It can reach speeds of over 200 miles per hour in a dive making it the fastest animal in the world.
