Ringed Plover

Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula)

Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula)

The ringed plover is a small dumpy short-legged wading bird with a distinctive black neckband giving its ringed name. They breed on Arran and are a common resident round the coast all year. They forage for food on beaches, tidal flats and open fields, feeding on flies, spiders, marine worms and molluscs. They nest in a scrape in open areas with little or no plant growth.
